J.D. Power and Associates has released its J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for 2017, and it has some great news for fans of Chevy’s pickup trucks. Chevrolet’s selection of 2017 pickups scored very well in the study, with the Silverado—both the half-ton and heavy-duty versions—ranking the highest of all pickup trucks, along with the Nissan Frontier.
The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is one of the most prestigious quality studies in the auto industry. The fact that Chevy’s line of 2017 pickups scored so well is one of the best indications that now is a great time to purchase a Chevrolet.
About the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
J.D. Power and Associates is one of the most reputable and well-respected marketing research firms in the country. For 31 years running, the company has released the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, which reports the firm’s findings on the quality of that year’s vehicles from nearly every major automotive brand.
The Initial Quality Study is scored on a scale of Problems per 100 Vehicles. To come up with the score, the company researches the number of problems reported by customers during the first 90 days of ownership for each vehicle and compiles all of that data to give each of that year’s models a score.
The lower the numerical value of a vehicle’s score, the fewer problems that were reported. A vehicle that scores 77 on the study had fewer problems than one that scores 89, meaning that lower scores are better.
2017 Chevy Silverado Best Pickup Overall
On this year’s J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado scored very well. The Silverado 1500 ranked highest in the 2017 Large Light-Duty Pickup category, and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 ranked first in the 2017 Large Heavy-Duty Pickup category.
The Initial Quality Study has only three categories for pickup trucks, meaning that the Chevrolet Silverado dominated 2/3s of all the categories for its type of vehicle.
The Silverado isn’t the only Chevrolet pickup to do well in the study. Though it did not take first place, the Chevrolet Colorado came in second place in the 2017 Mid-Size Pickup category, just behind the Nissan Frontier.
Along with scoring highly in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Chevrolet took home another prestigious honor from J.D. Power and Associates in 2017. Earlier this year, Chevrolet’s Fort Wayne Truck Assembly Plant was recognized as delivering the highest-ranked automotive manufacturing quality in the Americas, earning the J.D. Power Gold Plant Quality Award.
Whether you’re a longstanding fan of Chevrolet pickups or are interested in becoming a Chevy truck owner for the first time, there’s never been a better time to purchase a Chevrolet truck. It’s not just us saying it, either. J.D. Power and Associates’ yearly rankings are one of the most reliable measures of quality there are, and the fact that Chevy’s trucks are scoring so well is all the proof anyone should need.
