The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is a study in excess; long on power and performance, short on practicality; and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Grand Sport is the high-performance version of the Corvette, and Chevy lives up to the promise of the vehicle’s name with an automobile that is a dream to drive. The new Grand Sport takes its visual cues from 1960s versions of the popular sports car while offering all the power made possible by modern automotive technology.
The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport recently tied the Porsche 911 GT3 RS at a test in Hockenheim. Considering that the Corvette Grand Sport costs half the price of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS––$79,930 to the $189,760 price tag of the Porsche––the value offered by this high-performance machine is pretty evident.
Zero to 60 in 3.6 Seconds
The new Grand Sport draws its power from a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 460 horsepower and 465 lb. ft. of torque. In track tests, the vehicle accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 181 mph.
The vehicle has a seven-speed manual transmission and has a variety of innovative features that help drivers fully realize the performance offered by the vehicle, including drive modes that allow drivers to make changes in steering, throttle, and shift points, and that also give drivers greater control over horsepower and torque. Modes include touring, sport, track, economy, and weather.
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport offers fuel economy of just 19 mpg, but, let’s face it, you’re not buying this car because you want to go green.
The Grand Sport offers a stable and comfortable ride, thanks to Chevrolet’s magnetic ride control suspension system, which uses magnetic fields to precisely and quickly control suspension.
Some other great performance and comfort features of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport include a hill-hold feature that facilitates easier gear shifting on slopes, an optional heads-up display that shows features such as gear selection and speed, an 8-inch navigation screen that offers both back-up and curb cameras, and highly adjustable seats with optional features such as ventilation and heating.
The Corvette also offers some neat tech features owners will enjoy, including 4G LTE, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone syncing, USB ports, and more. The vehicle offers just 10 to 15 cubic feet of storage space, depending on whether you opt for a convertible or hardtop, but, again, you’re not buying this vehicle to be a family grocery-getter.
The Grand Sport is available in several unique packages, including the Collector edition, which has several great styling features and is limited to just 1,000 automobiles.
The Grand Sport is a worthy successor to the 60 years of automotive greatness embodied by the Corvette name. Lovers of American performance vehicles will want to check this one out.
